Coffee Cake

1 ½ C. flour
1 C. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
¼ C. shortening
1 egg (slightly beaten)
½ C. milk
Topping:
½ C. brown sugar
2 Tbs. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
½ C. chopped nuts (optional)
4 Tbs. melted butter
Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening, as for biscuits. Add egg and milk. Mix well until blended. Spread into greased pan. Mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, butter, and nuts. Sprinkle over cake mixture. Bake @ 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
